What Affects Your Water Quality?
The only thing that seems to be a priority over having access to water, is having access to clean water. Have you ever wondered what affects the water quality in your home? Well guess what, we have the answers.
Factors That Affect Water Quality
The quality of your water in your home is influenced by both environmental, and “manmade” factors. This includes – but is not limited to – how old your plumbing system is, its temperature, oil/grease levels, the amount of people in your home, household cleaners, sedimentation, and erosion. While you won’t be able to control all these factors, it’s important to remain mindful of them and how they can impact your water quality.
Manmade Factors
Believe it or not, humans are the culprits of many of the things that affect water quality. Awareness is the name of the game when it comes remedying this. For example, the usage of detergents, oils, and greases can influence the longevity of your plumbing systems and water quality. Avoid pouring oil and grease down your disposals or using harsh chemicals when they’re avoidable.
Water Filters
It’s important that you routinely replace filter cartridges for your water filter. These filters are trapping sediments, debris and bacteria which in term become clogged over months of use. If they become too clogged, it becomes difficult for water to pass through. It’s important that you stay on top of replacing your water filter to keep it running at optimal performance and keeping the water quality in your home high.
Flushing
When the water hasn’t been used for several days or several hours it’s important to flush it out before using water for drinking and cooking. The longer water sits in your pipes the more likely is it for the water quality to decline. It’s always a good idea to conserve water however, other methods of flushing your pipes include showering, flushing the toilet, running the dishwasher, or doing a load of laundry.
Drinking Water
Drinking out of plastic water bottles can be wasteful and expensive. By implementing a water filter in your home, it will not only ensure that it is safe to drink, but will improve the taste as well. There is a misconception that all water filters are expensive, but the pitchers themselves are quite cheap. Pitchers are convenient and effective way to remove any contaminants from your drinking water. Considering stocking your fridge with a filtered pitcher and buy filter replacements as needed.
Drinking plenty of water is the key to a healthy body, but if your water quality isn’t up to standard it will do more harm than good.
