Responded to no-cooling call on 10+ year old residential air conditioning system with outdoor unit located in backyard and furnace in basement. Upon arrival, confirmed unit was not operating. Performed diagnostic evaluation of electrical components, thermostat communication, and condensing unit. Inspected manufacturer labels and unit specifications on equipment. Documented equipment condition through photography of ductwork in basement mechanical space and condensing unit data plate showing model CVPVP3511MC34A. Assessed overall system operation and provided homeowner with findings and recommendations for restoring cooling functionality to the single-zone HVAC system.
Replaced shower head and faucet fixtures in second floor bathroom that had been out of service for 15 years as temporary solution until walk-in tub installation. Assessed existing plumbing infrastructure including galvanized piping, valve seats, stems, and main shut-off valve for potential corrosion and operational concerns. Utilized borescope inspection camera to examine internal components and ductwork for potential obstructions or damage that could cause odor. Identified heavily soiled condenser coils with substantial buildup between fins restricting airflow and heat transfer capability. Documented condenser condition showing outdoor debris, dried leaves, and particulate matter around unit base and throughout coil fins, indicating extended period without maintenance cleaning, which could contribute to system strain and overheating conditions producing burning smell.
