Low Water Pressure in Your Home
Having low water pressure in your home can extend the time it takes to do laundry, take showers, and even go to the bathroom. This problem can affect a single plumbing fixture or the entirety of your home’s plumbing. It’s best to check each area in your home to see how many fixtures are affected by low water pressure.
The Watering Hole
The shower head is often the reason for low water pressure. If the tub can fill up easily, but the shower has a weak stream, then you know it is the shower head itself. This is usually due to a buildup of calcium in the head that needs to be cleaned out.
Bathroom & Kitchen Basins
You go to brush you teeth and you notice the bathroom faucet has low water pressure. Check to see if the faucet’s aerator is creating this issue by removing it. If the water flow is normal afterwards then replace the aerator; if not then it may be the faucet or the plumbing. Be sure to check your kitchen faucet for this problem as well.
The Throne
When the toilet fills slowly, the fill valve is usually to blame. Shut the valve off so water does not flow into the toilet. Then disconnect the fill valve and clean it out. If it still takes too long to fill after a good cleaning, then it may need to be replaced.
Washer
Washers can take a few minutes to fill, but this can take a very long time when there is low water pressure. When you washer takes its time filling, shut off the water and disconnect the hoses. Empty the water from the hoses into buckets and start to clean them. There should be screens in the machine and in the hoses; clean these to allow water to flow freely without obstruction.
