Electrical Tips Every Homeowner Should Know
The majority of us aren’t electricians (except us, we actually are) and it’s important that everyone knows the proper safety precautions. Without the knowledge of electrical safety, your home could go up in disastrous flames. Avoid a costly house fire by writing a few of these electrical tips down.
Hot Panel
Check your electrical panel by placing the back of your hand to it. If it feels hot to the touch, call an electrician. Your breaker box should never have an elevated temperature. This rule also applies for any outlet around the house.
Breaker Knowledge
It can be frustrating to have your breakers trip, especially when it happens all the time. Rather than getting mad that it keeps happening, be happy because it’s letting you know something is wrong. Constant tripping means there is a constant overload on that circuit. Take some of the load off of that circuit by unplugging cords and hooking them up to other circuits.
Light ‘Em Up
If the lights in your home are constantly flickering that could mean a few different things. Your home’s electrical system could be old and might not be able to hand the current electrical load you are demanding from it. The electrical panel could also be faulty and needs replacement. It could even be as simple as having a circuit that is about to trip because it’s at the point of overloading.
Check Appliance Cords
First things first, check all of your appliances cords to see if they are two or three-pronged. If any major appliances only have two prongs, replace them. You also want to see if the wires are frayed or damaged. This is a common issue that will cause sparks to fly and fires to start.Knowing basic electrical tips can keep you, your family, and your home safe from any damage or possible fires.
