Easy Ways to Save on Your Energy Bill
There’s no worse feeling than opening up your monthly energy bill and being shocked at how high the total is. You’ll start to think back on your energy usage and wonder where you could have gone wrong. Rather than wonder, simply fix these three things and your next month’s bill should significantly drop.
New Bulbs
Using the same type of light bulbs that you’ve been using for the last ten years are definitely contributing to a higher monthly bill. Start by changing the most used bulbs in your house to new LED or halogen light bulbs. The kitchen, bathrooms, and living room should be switched out first followed by the bedrooms and the rest of the house.
Conservative Showers
Taking shorter showers are always recommended, but there is more you can do to reduce your monthly usage. Install new low flow shower heads in each bathroom to combat the excess usage of water in your home. But how does water usage translate to energy savings? Most of the water you use needs to be heated, so the less water that’s used, the less water that needs to be heated. This one is a twoforone!
Maintaining Your HVAC System
One of the biggest energy suckers on your monthly bill comes from your HVAC system. Luckily there are multiple ways in which you can lower this portion of your energy bill. Besides using your system less, you can choose to have a programmable thermostat installed to control when and where certain areas are cooled or heated. You’ll also want to maintain your HVAC system by regularly switching out the air filters, cleaning the unit, and having a professional give it a tuneup.
