Simple Hot Water Heater Maintenance
Any fixture or appliance in your home should always have maintenance performed on it. This will ensure its efficiency and longevity throughout its lifetime. Every so often you should head over to your hot water heater and perform a quick and easy maintenance routine.
Easy Water Heater Maintenance Steps
Step 1: Go to each radiator in your home and place a bucket underneath the piece where air is released. Then open the valves to let all of the air out. Once all of the air is out water will begin to empty; this is when you should close the valves.
Step 2: Head over to the furnace and turn the power off, as well as turning off the water from the main shutoff valve. Grab your garden hose and place it in the boiler drain cock.
Step 3: Make your way to the radiator that is in the highest room of your home and open the vent valves on it. This will let air into the pipes and water will soon begin to enter the system.
Step 4: Open the main shutoff valve to allow water to flush throughout the entire heating system. Wait until the water stops running on its own.
Step 5: Once the water stops running, unplug the hose, close the drain cock and, and shut the radiator vents.
