Can You Use the A/C with a Newborn?
When a new member of the family makes his/her way back to the house for the first time, parents can become overprotective. They want to make sure that nothing can hurt their new bundle of joy, not even a change in temperature. With that being said, do you think you can use the air conditioner with a newborn in the house?
The Answer
Of course, you can use run your A/C unit with a newborn present, but you do have to be cautious with the settings. It is actually preferred that you keep the baby in a home that’s cool compared to one that is slightly warmer. Too warm of a home can cause a baby to overheat, become dehydrated, or come down with a heat stroke. To ensure that your A/C is in top condition, consider getting a tune-up.
The Temperature
You now know that you can run the air conditioner with a newborn in the house, but what temperature should the thermostat be set to? You can set this range to be anywhere between 72 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Obviously, if it is extremely hot and sunny out, you should keep it towards 72 or 73 degrees. Also, close curtains to keep the sunlight from raising the temperature within your home. You can keep your cool this summer in addition to your A/C with a few, handy tips.
Avoid Direct Exposure
Cooling the room is no problem at all, but try to keep your baby away from the air ducts and vents. You should also be dressing the newborn appropriately. Cover its arms and legs at all times, and even consider placing a cap on the baby’s head. If you feel like the room may be too cool, try raising the thermostat a degree or two, or keep a light blanket handy to cover the baby.
Newborn babies are vulnerable and fragile to many things, including temperature, so it’s best to take precautions when using your A/C unit.
